Neighbors and firefighters from the Gaston Rural Fire District rescued a horse
Neighbors and firefighters from the Gaston Rural Fire District rescued a horse from a muddy creek along Olson Road in rural Yamhill County last Wednesday, June 1.
Ten Gaston firefighters and a number of neighbors were able to wrap fire hoses around the trapped horse and pull it to safety from the creek, just southwest of town. The horse was alive and being treated on-scene by Alexander Equine Veterinary Services approximately one hour after the initial 9-1-1 call at 6:27 p.m.
This was the fifth horse rescue in five years for Gaston Fire. Many of the Gaston firefighters are experienced horse people, including Fire Chief Roger Mesenbrink, who led the Olson Road effort.
