Putnam graduates Brian Ranta (George Fox University) and Kevin Schwartz (Pacific University) have been honored in the 2011 American Baseball Coaches Association Division III All-West Region all-star balloting.
Ranta was named to the region's third all-star team, while Schwartz was selected to receive the Division III West Region Gold Glove Award.
Ranta, a junior at George Fox, went 8-2 on the 2011 season, with a 2.40 ERA. The Bruins' ace on the hill, Ranta struck out 68 batters and walked only 10 in 93-2/3 innings.
Nationally, Ranta was 10th in fewest walks per nine innings (0.96). In the Northwest Conference, he ranked first in innings (tied), strikeouts, wins and starts (13).
Ranta was named the Bruin Athletic Association Athlete of the Week twice, was the NWC Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week three times, and was a first-team All-Northwest Conference selection.
George Fox recorded its 16th straight winning season, going 26-13. The Bruins tied Pacific University for third in the NWC with a 14-10 record.
Schwartz, a junior at Pacific, started 36 games in centerfield and did not commit an error in 92 chances, while making 87 putouts. He was one of three West Region Gold Glove selections that finished with a 1,000 fielding percentage.
Schwartz also led the Boxers offensively, with a .343 batting average and 46 hits, including 12 doubles and 19 RBI.
Schwartz garnered honorable mention in the NWC all-start balloting.
The Boxers finished with an overall record of 21-16-2.
