Glads bounce Aloha

GLADSTONE - The pitching was suspect, but Gladstone High School launched its OIBA summer baseball season with a 'w' on Friday, defeating Class 6A Aloha 14-8.
Gladstone pitchers Eamon Burrell and Riley Jones walked 11 batters and gave up eight runs before Ty Breshears came in with one down in the sixth and closed the door.
Breshears, in 1-2/3 innings of relief, struck out four and walked no one, while yielding two hits.
Trace Webster carried much of the load on offense, going 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the second and a two-run single in the third. Justin Layton (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Daniel Wallace (2-for-3, 2 RBI, one run) and A.J. Swalko (2-for-5, one run, one RBI) had two hits apiece, as the Gladiators fired up their bats for 10 hits.
The Gladiators return to the diamond at 7 p.m. Friday, when they entertain Class 6A Glencoe.
