No backboard, no game
Lake Oswego star Kevin Love shatters the glass at Putnam High School gym
MILWAUKIE - It's Kevin Love 4, Putnam 0, minus one backboard.
That's where Friday night's boys basketball game between Lake Oswego and Putnam stood Friday night after the 6-foot-10 Lake Oswego basketball star shattered a backboard about three minutes into the contest at the Putnam High School gym.
Love stole a pass at mid-court and then dribbled in for a thundering dunk that shattered the backboard.
'It exploded like I've never seen before,' Lake Oswego coach Mark Shoff said of Love's dunk, which gave him all four of Lake Oswego's points.
No one was hurt on the play.
Virtually all schools in Oregon, including Putnam, have break-away rims, which which are supposed to resist shattering.
'It just shows how strong he is,' Shoff said of Love's game-postponing dunk.
The game will resume Saturday at 5 p.m. at Alder Creek Middle School.
