Tualatin Hills Dive Club to host USA Diving Junior Region 10 Championships
BEAVERTON - Eleven divers from Tualatin Hills Dive Club will compete in the USA Diving Junior Region 10 Championships at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center (15707 SW Walker Road) beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday.
The meet is one of 10 region championships conducted throughout the country, and 98 divers from Oregon, Washington and California will be competing. The event is free for spectators.
The championship features divers in four age groups - 11-under, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18. Competition will be held on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard as well as 5, 7.5 and 10-meter platform events for boys and girls.
The top 15 finishers in each event in each age group will advance to the USA Diving Junior Zones on July 7-10 in Tucson, Ariz.
Eleven athletes with local ties are among those planning to participate in the region championships, including Sarah Braun (a sophomore at Southridge High School), Nicholas Han (an eighth grader at Summa North, Meadow Park Middle School), Andy Kreiter (a seventh grader at Highland Park Middle School), Rachel Polaski (a sixth grader at Conestoga Middle School), Tyler Puterbaugh (a seventh grader at Cedarwood Waldorf School), Allison Quinn (a seventh grader at Oregon Episcopal School), Lucy Roberts (a seventh grader at St John Fisher), Madi Schmidt (a senior at Lincoln High School), Sabin Venable (a sixth grader at Raleigh Hills Middle School), Cassie Weil (a junior at Jesuit High School), and Serena Zafiris (a seventh grader at West Sylvan Middle School).
