Anti-coal group working to promote alternative energy
The Oregon chapter of the Sierra Club is offering discounts on rooftop solar installations to its 20,000 members, and anyone willing to join the organization, in partnership with Tualatin-based RS Energy.
The Sierra Club says typical customers will see immediate reductions in their electric bill of 25 percent or more.
The environmental lobbying group has been leading a campaign to oppose the use of coal-fired electric plants in Oregon and elsewhere, because of their high emissions that cause air pollution and contribute to global warming.
Now the group says it's doing something to provide an alternative to coal-fired plants.
