The Estacada School District's board of directors has announced a vacancy in its Zone 3 seat, which was formally held by Danny Scott, and directed the school district to publish the vacancy and begin the process of appointing a replacement.
Scott was up for re-election but died on April 29, just as the May 17 special election ballots were mailed. Because Scott won the election, the board officially created a vacancy for his seat and will proceed to appoint his successor, who will hold the Zone 3 post until the next school board election in 2013.
Estacada School District Executive Secretary Sabrina La Londe said the school district is accepting applications for the seat. The terms of office will run from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2013.
Candidates must be registered to vote and must have lived within the district's Zone 3 boundary for at least one year. The deadline to apply for the vacancy is noon Friday, July 8.
Candidates will be asked to appear for an interview at 7:30 p.m. July 13 in the high school choir room, at which time a new board member may or may not be appointed.
Applications are available online on the school board's main page at esd108.org or in person at the district's central office at 355 N.E. Sixth Ave. in Estacada. If interested, applicants should also contact La Londe at 503-630-6871 ext. 2908.
At its July meeting, the board also will appoint a new chair and co-chair.
