Sex abuse charged
Lake Oswego Police have arrested a Portland man after a three-month investigation into an alleged assault at Marylhurst University.
Police arrested Mark A. Smith, 50, on charges of sex abuse in the third degree and for harassment stemming from an October incident. In the complaint, Smith, a student at the university, was accused of fondling a 58-year-old female classmate in Davignon Hall.
'This happened during a break from a class that was being attended by the parties involved,' said Capt. Don Forman of the Lake Oswego Police. 'The school got involved in this immediately and took action.'
Ultimately, the complaint was referred to police. A subsequent investigation resulted in the recent charges. Smith was also arrested on sex abuse charges in Portland in October on charges he fondled two young girls on Halloween while passing out candy.
He is set to appear in Lake Oswego Municipal Court Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. on the charges.
