MILWAUKIE - Milwaukie High hardballers kicked off the summer season in top form on Saturday, sweeping a Junior State Division I doubleheader from Roosevelt, 13-0 and 13-3.
'We only have four kids coming back [from this spring's varsity],' said Milwaukie coach Dan Lee. 'We've got a lot of holes to fill, but we've got some respectable candidates.
The Mustangs committed just one error in the two games.
Keynan Middleton was sharp in Saturday's opener, striking out 11, walking one and hitting one batter in a five-inning no-hitter.
Jason Espinoza (2-for-3) and T.J. Fisher (2-for-4) led a nine-hit offensive attack. Espinoza pounded out two doubles and scored twice; Fischer drove in a pair of runs.
Led by Ryan Harp (2-run home run), nine different Milwaukie players made contact for hits in the nightcap. Colton Smith, Randall Sam and Tyler Brezai all rapped doubles.
Kevin Rueck, Sam and Fisher pitched, striking out eight and walking three, while allowing three hits.
The Mustangs vie at Scappoose this afternoon and they play a doubleheader at Wilson beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
