60 years of harmony

Tickets are now on sale for the 61st Annual All-Northwest Barbershop Ballad Contest, scheduled for Friday, March 2 and Saturday March 3 in the Forest Grove High School Auditorium. The 7 p.m. Friday show will feature all quartets in the competition plus guest quartet 'Flipside,' three-time winner of the Forest Grove competition and current fifth-place International Champions. Eight finalists will be chosen. Following the Friday evening competition, the Circle of Champions Afterglow will be held in the high school Commons.

The two shows on Saturday will feature the eight finalist quartets. The quartets will be judged at the 2 p.m. matinee and the winners will be announced and prize money presented at the end of the 7 p.m. show. After six-decades of putting on the a cappella extravaganza, organizers have it down to a science. You can purchase tickets at the Forest Grove Chamber office. Call 503-357-3006 for details.

Crunches and canned food

Area Curves fitness centers will run a food drive during the month of March, kicking off the drive with sign-up bonus.

Curves will waive its normal service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non-perishable groceries between March 1 and March 10.

Barbara Jorgenson, owner of the Cornelius Curves franchise, said that last year her location donated food to Centro Cultural, the Family Resource Center and a pair of local churches.

'It just creates a sense that the members are taking care of themselves while they're here and they're also taking care of someone else in the community,' Jorgenson said.

The membership offer is good at all three area Curves locations: Cornelius Curves at 1519 N Adair St., 503-357-4200; Forest Grove Curves at 1929 21st Ave., 503-359-5454; and Curves for Women in Banks at 163 N. Main St., 503-324-9262.

50 years on film

Woodfold Manufacturing has kicked off a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary with an eight-minute retrospective film and will continue the festivities each month with an employee get together.

'You just can't believe that a company that can start out at four people can turn out to be 120 people,' said Woodfold CEO Mark Lewis.

Woodfold is a national supplier of custom-crafted roll-up doors and hardwood shutters. Six months ago, the company purchased Emerge Technology, a Forest Grove injection-molding company and now offers plastic products to complement the company's shutters and doors.
