Firefighters turn off valve to stop Alpenrose ammonia leak

Portland Fire and Rescue crews have contained the ammonia leak at Alpenrose Dairy. The source of the leak was isolated and the leaking valve was shut off.
The incident is being recalled and Fire Commanders have given the all clear message. Residents in the area can discontinue sheltering in place.
Portland Fire and Rescue is responding to an ammonia leak at Alpenrose Dairy, located at 6149 S.W. Shattuck Road.
Public in the area south of Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, east of Southwest Oleson Road, north of Southwest Vermont Street and west of Southwest 55th Avenue are advised to shelter in place. This means that anyone in this area should stay inside, shut windows and doors, turn off air conditioners and turn on their televisions for updates. Traffic in the vicinity of Alpenrose Dairy is shut down.
