Alex Wallaert paced the Estacada High School varsity boys' basketball team with 16 points. He was followed closely by Kyle Marcus, 15, and Don DeRosia, 14. Joey Swan added 11 points.

Marcus scored 11 of 12 trips to the foul line, shooting 92 percent. As a team, the Rangers were 19 of 24 from the line.

Wallaert shot 85.7 percent from the field. He made six of seven field goals and was 4-for-7 from the foul line (57 percent).

North Marion built an early lead, going up 10-0 early, and leaving the first quarter with a 20-12 lead.

The Rangers began the second quarter with a 7-0 push and ended up scoring 24 in the quarter, to cut the deficit to one at halftime. Marcus tied the game 30-30 with a pair of free throws.

Gamma Olivares nailed a three midway through the third quarter to take the Rangers' first lead of the game, 51-50.

Estacada continued to control the game in the second half, beating the Huskies in both quarters, 17-11 in the third and 22-20 in the fourth.

'Defensively we did a great job,' said Estacada Coach Kevin Kirchhofer.

The Rangers out-rebounded the Huskies 29-18 in the Capital Conference victory.

If the Rangers beat 1-10 Molalla and Cascade (9-2) beats Gladstone (4-7), Estacada will play tonight to break the tie for fifth place with the Gladiators.
