Mary attended St. Agatha School, as did her younger brother, David. Before graduating from Girls Polytechnic High School, Mary learned to be an expert seamstress, and worked part-time as a clerk at Smith's Grocery at S.E. 17th and Umatilla, where her father was the head meat-cutter. The couple moved to N.E. 35th and Ainsworth, and had their first child, Kathleen, in 1949; but Mary and her family returned to Sellwood in 1953, living at S.E. 21st and Umatilla, and later at S.E. 15th and Lexington. Years later, Mary returned to work at Standard Insurance, retiring in 1989 at the age of 62. In May of 2005, she and Dick moved to a small apartment a few doors down from the family homestead. She died on January 23, 2007, and a requiem mass was celebrated on Monday, January 29th, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Sellwood. Mary is survived by her husband, Dick; their children, Diane, Dan, and Kathleen; her sisters, Marsha and Cheryl; and grandchildren, Kimberly, Theresa, Andrew, and Nathan.
