Courting Maid Marian candidates

Applications for the Maid Marian competition are out, and festival organizers are offering scholarships
by: Anthony Roberts, The 2006 Maid Marian Court at the Robin Hood Festival's knighting ceremony in Old Town.

It's that time of year again.

The Robin Hood Festival Association is seeking an audience with the young ladies of the community.

Girls in first through fourth grade and ninth through 12th grade in high school are hereby invited to try out for the 2007 Maid Marian Court.

Those girls eligible and interested in trying out for this year's court need only to live in the Sherwood School District area; that includes all private, home, and public school students.

Applications for interviews will be available by March 1 at the following locations: Sherwood High School, Archer Glen Grade School, Hopkins Grade School, Middleton Grade School, and the Public Library. Completed applications are due by April 1. Return address information will be made available on the Parents information letter attached to the application form. Interviews and selection of this year's court will take place on April 14, at 9:30 a.m. at Sherwood Bible Fellowship Church at 23550 SW Pine Street (just off Sunset near the soccer park).

As in years past, we will have a presentation and coronation of Maid Marian and her court the evening of Wednesday, May 9, at the public library in Old Town Sherwood. The exact time of the coronation will be advertised in the April edition of The Gazette. The court will then assist the festival association as official ambassadors of our city by participating in community parades and civic events during the year including our own Robin Hood Festival, which takes place the third weekend in July and again in December during the lighting of Downtown Sherwood's Holiday Tree.
