10 swimmers score 41 top-10 finishes during the 10U short course tilt

SPRINGFIELD - Thirteen was a lucky number for Tualatin Hills Swim Club at the 2007 Speedo Short Course 10 and Under Championships at Willamalane Pool Feb. 17-18.

Of the 13 THSC swimmers at the event, 10 scored top-10 finishes in 41 individual races while also setting 27 Oregon 'A' times and 14 Age Group Sectional times. Those sectional qualifiers, including four relay teams, will go on to compete at the Age Group Sectional Championships March 23-25 in Federal Way, Wash. Six relays also placed in the top 10, with five going on to Age Group Sectional Championships.

THSC highlights came from:

n Prudence Rooker, 10, who won the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, took second in the 100 individual medley, third in the 50 freestyle, fourth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 200 free.

n Logan Scroggy, 10, took second in the 100 and 200 freestyle races, third in the 100 butterfly and 50 free, and fourth in the 100 individual medley and 50 fly.

n Cortlandt Nelsen, 9, was second in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and fifth in the 200 free and 100 IM.

n Megan Lam was second in the 50 free, third in the 100 free and fifth in the 200 free.

n Abby White grabbed third in the 50 fly and 100 breaststroke, took fourth in the 200 IM and 100 fly, and added two more top-10 finishes as well.

Other individuals who also scored top-10 finishes were Brady Dylan, 8, Sean Calkins, 8, Eric Xu, 8, and Jonathan Zoucha, 10.

Relay teams headed to sectionals for THSC are: Cynthia Fenrich, Rooker, White and Lam in the girls 10U 200 medley; Zoucha, Kasper Adamiec, Scroggy and Nelsen in the boys 10U 200 medley; Rooker, Lam, White and Fenrich in the girls 10U 200 free; Scroggy, Zoucha, Nelsen and Adamiec in the 10U 200 free; Calkins, Brady, Xu and Scroggy in the boys 8U 100 free; and Calkins, Xu, Zachary Scroggy and Brady in the boys 8U 100 medley.
