Doris Helen MacDonald

Former Sandy resident Doris Helen MacDonald, 102, died Thursday, Feb. 15.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Feb. 22, at Rose City Cemetery, Portland.
Doris was born Dec. 2, 1904, in Great Bend, Kan., to Al and Elizabeth (Somers) Dodd. She was raised and educated in Kansas and in Sandy, where she attended Bull Run Grade School and Sandy High School.
In the 1920s, Doris married Stanley G. MacDonald. She moved to Portland in 1928.
Doris worked in the Portland shipyards during World War II and later was an executive secretary for the Goodyear Co. for many years. She retried in the 1960s.
She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star.
In 1967, Doris was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include her nieces, Doris Doherty of Portland, DeAnn Hadley of Independence, Myrtle Danialson of Portland and Dorothy Phelps; and nephews, Donald Dodd and Kenneth Dodd.
Rose City Cemetery and Funeral Home in Portland is handling arrangements.
Del Lee Karlen
Nov. 19, 1933-Feb. 25, 2007
Del Lee Karlen, 73, a former resident of Boring, died of cancer Sunday, Feb. 25, in Gresham.
An informal memorial gathering and potluck will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 2, at the Milwaukie Grange Hall, 12015 S.E. 22nd Ave., Milwaukie.
Del was born Nov. 19, 1933, in Plymouth, Idaho, to Lee and Malissa (Tipton) Hamilton. She was raised and educated in Pleasant Valley.
In 1957, Del married John R. Karlen Jr. in Oregon. They later divorced but remained close.
Del was a waitress at the Satellite Restaurant for more than 25 years. She later worked at Boeing and Chums Café in Gresham. She retired in 2002.
In 1966, Del moved from Portland to Boring, where she resided until 1978. At that time, she moved to Gresham.
Del was a member of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union Local No. 9.
Del was preceded in death by her brother, Arnold Hamilton.
Survivors include her daughters, Juanita Lane of Tygh Valley and Debra Burke of Eugene; sons, John Karlen III of New Jersey and Mike Coates of Brightwood; brother, Harold Hamilton of Troutdale; sister, Helen Hamilton of Dallas, Ore.; former spouse, John Karlen Jr. of Boring; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
