Defending state champion Lake Oswego plays host to Gresham in one of eight Class 6A boys basketball state playoff games on tap Saturday night.

The winners earn a trip to the state tournament Wednesday through March 10 at McArthur Court in Eugene.

The big match in the city will be at Central Catholic, where the Mount Hood Conference champion Rams play host to PIL runner-up Grant.

Lincoln, the PIL champion, is at home against Sheldon, the No. 2 seed from the Southwest Conference. KBPS (1450 AM) will carry the game live. If Lincoln wins, it would play in the first game of the state tournament 1:30 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of Saturday's McMinnville-at-McKay game.

Oregon City travels to South Medford in another key game - and the winner will open the state tourney against Grant or Central Catholic at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Also Saturday, Jesuit plays host to South Salem. The winner will play its first state tourney game 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against either Benson or Canby, who meet Saturday at Canby.

Lake Oswego, with a victory over Gresham, would play at state 3:15 p.m. Wednesday against Westview or Tigard, who are playing Saturday at Tigard.

5A boys: The second round of the state playoffs is tonight, with PIL champ Roosevelt playing host to Crook County and Jefferson at home against Century. The winners move on to the eight-team state tournament Wednesday through March 10 at McArthur Court.

6A girls: Eight games tonight will determine the eight teams in the state tournament, which is Wednesday through March 10 at Chiles Center. No. 1-ranked Central Catholic plays host to Roseburg, Clackamas goes to Jesuit, West Salem is at PIL champion Lincoln, Canby visits Lake Oswego, Reynolds travels to Sheldon, West Linn is at Southridge and Oregon City journeys to McKay. If they win, Central Catholic and Oregon City would meet in the state quarterfinals 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

5A girls: Two PIL schools are among the 16 teams remaining. On Saturday, Hillsboro plays at No. 1-ranked Jefferson, while Cleveland travels to Churchill. Saturday's winners qualify for the eight-team state tourney, which starts Thursday and runs through March 10 at Chiles Center.
