Dinner for two with Patty Duke is the top item on Boring auction ticket

Bid winner will be flown to Spokane for dinner with actress and her husband
by: Contributed Photo, Dinner with Patty Duke, the first actress under 18 years old to win an Academy Award, will be auctioned at the Hood View Junior Academy fundraiser on Saturday, March 10, in Boring.

Great deals can always be found at the Annual Hood View Junior Academy Auction, but this year, Estacada's Marsha Naegeli-Moody has scored a once-in-a-lifetime experience to offer.

Thanks to Moody's connections and ingenuity, the showstopper of the evening will be a night out on the town with Hollywood actress and Academy Award winner Patty Duke.

'I said to myself, 'Why can't we offer something really over the top? Why can't we get a big Hollywood star?'' Moody said. 'Let's think outside the box. We can only achieve what we believe in life. So I said I believe we can get a star for our auction.'

The winner of this oral auction item will receive a 45-minute flight (for two) to Spokane, Wash. They will then be whisked away to the Palm Court Restaurant located inside the historic Davenport Hotel. There, the couple will enjoy a two-hour visit over dinner with Patty Duke and her husband, Michael Pearce. Moody said that for a reduced rate of $135 per night, the couple will have the option of staying at the hotel for the evening.

'I love the Davenport; it is by far the best hotel in all of Oregon, Washington and Idaho,' Moody said.

Throughout the years, the Davenport Hotel has been home to royalty, kings of industry, captains of commerce, stars of stage and screen and just about every American president of the 20th century.

'It's very magical. How fun it would be for someone to give this to their parents or spouse for their anniversary,' Moody said.

Two 8x10 glossy photographs of Duke are also included in the package, which may be autographed in person during their visit.

Moody's two children are students at Hood View Junior Academy. Approximately 200 students attend the private school in Boring. The proceeds from this year's auction will help fund the school's new media center, which was completed in 2005.

The auction will be held Saturday, March 10, at Hood View Junior Academy, 26505 S.E. Kelso Rd. Admission to the auction is free. A pasta dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. for $7 for adults, and $5 for children 10 years old and younger.

A silent auction will include a variety of items, including baskets prepared by each classroom. The oral auction will begin at 7:15 p.m. For more information call 503-663-4568.
