William 'Bill' Lee Dunken

Nov. 21, 1930-March 12, 2007

Gresham resident William 'Bill' Lee Dunken, 76, died Monday, March 12, in Portland.

A celebration of life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Summerplace clubhouse, 2020 N.E. 150th Ave., Portland.

Bill was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Superior, Neb., to James Delbert and Nellie (Wilde) Dunken. In 1937, he moved with his family to Corbett, where he graduated from Corbett High School in 1948.

After his graduation, Bill worked for Bridal Veil Lumber.

In 1950, he enlisted in the Navy and served overseas. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

After his discharge, he worked for Techtronics. Then, in the 1970s, Bill owned a Honda motorcycle dealership for five years and a men's wear business for a short time in Newberg. From 1986 until 1990, he owned a Papa Aldos, which is now Papa Murphy's, in Salem.

On June 18, 1988, Bill married Karen Smithson in Fairview. In 1991, they moved to Bend. Bill owned a mobile park in Redmond and invested in real estate. They moved to Gresham in 2003.

Bill enjoyed traveling and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of Portland; son, James Dunken of Oregon City, stepdaughter, Fran Laws of Marysville, Wash.; stepsons, Darren Toy of Gresham and James Toy of Drain; brother, Bob Dunken of Portland; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Anne Stone

June 11, 1928-March 13, 2007

Ruth Anne Stone, 78, a resident of Boring, died Tuesday, March 13, in Gresham.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham.

Ruth was born June 11, 1928, in Weston to Olin and Vola (Scott) Nichoalds. She graduated from high school.

On Jan. 9, 1946, Ruth married Frank Stone Jr. in Stevenson, Wash. They lived in Fairview for a number of years before they moved to Boring in 1971.

She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper.

Ruth enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of Boring; sons, Bob Stone of Wallowa, and Randy Stone of Boring; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Albert 'Mack' McClellan Mauck

June 26, 1927-March 14, 2007

Troutdale resident Albert 'Mack' McClellan Mauck, 79, died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Wednesday, March 14, at his home.

No formal services will be held.

Mack was born June 26, 1927, in Buffalo, Wyo., to Albert and Irma (Sawyer) Mauck.

He joined the Merchant Marines and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Mack was married and divorced.

He worked for Goodman Sanitary and Excavation. He also owned Gateway Arabian Horse Ranch, where he bred national and international champion Arabian and half Arabian horses.

Mack moved to East County in 1950.

Survivors include his sons, Eric Mauck of Boring and Alex Mauck of Sandy; daughter, Erin Mauck of Sandy; and one grandson.

Josephine 'Agnes' Kern

May 14, 1914-Dec. 26, 2006

Longtime Gresham resident Josephine 'Agnes' Kern, 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Marquis Care at Centennial in Gresham.

At her request, no formal services were held.

Agnes was born May 14, 1914, in Portland to Henry and Mary Fassbender. She was raised and educated in Council, Idaho.

In the early 1930s, Agnes returned to the Portland area. She owned and operated Gladys' Beauty Salon in Gresham for 25 years.

On Dec. 25, 1952, Agnes married Emery R. Kern in Gresham.

Agnes was known for her oil paintings and watercolors of Northwest scenes and life. She studied under a number of different art instructors and took classes at Mt. Hood Community College. Her work is on display at the Gresham Library and Waverly Country Club in Portland.

In 1984, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Fassbender and Henrietta Fassbender.

Lloyd Kenneth Eckhardt

Gresham resident Lloyd Kenneth Eckhardt, 78, died Tuesday, March 13, in Portland.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave.

Lloyd was born July 1, 1928, in Odessa, Wash.

Violet E. Okell, 75, a resident of Boring, died Thursday, March 15, in Boring.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, in the youth center at East Hill Church, 50 N.W. Fifth St., Gresham.

Violet was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice.

James 'Jim' Edward Berney

Troutdale resident James 'Jim' Edward Berney, 69, died Thursday, March 15, in Portland.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 22, and 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, March 23, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, also at Gresham Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow.

Jim was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Medford.
