Metros best seniors go for it once again

The Reser's Oregon All-Star Series will feature eight of the Metro's best

CORVALLIS - The Metro League - the best high school baseball league in the state - will get one more chance to prove itself this weekend.

Eight of the Metro's best graduated seniors will get one more chance to strut their stuff at the Reser's Oregon All-Star Series, set for Saturday and Sunday at Goss Stadium on the campus of Oregon State University.

The All-Star Series features the top 6A and 5A seniors in a three-game series, opening Saturday at 6 p.m. and concluding with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The 2011 North roster - which will be coached by Westview's Steve Antich - will include pitchers Jace Fry of Southridge, Sam Johnson of Westview, and Jon Bjorklund of Sunset, catcher Jake Azevedo of Southridge, first basemen Jordan Spencer of Beaverton and Ryan Howard of Southridge, shortstop Mike Umscheid of Sunset, and outfielder Phil Belding of Westview.

Antich led the Wildcats to their first-ever state championship two weeks ago, while South head coach Jon Strohmaier led Sherwood to this year's Class 5A state title.

Fry, who will play next year at Oregon State University, will start for the North on Saturday. Johnson, who will play at Oregon next season, and West Linn's Riley Wilkerson will start for the North in Sunday's doubleheader.

Reserved seat tickets are $10 and general admission is $5.
