The victim of a shooting in Kenya faces more surgery but is happy to be home
TIGARD - Tuesday might just have been the best day in Carol Briggs' life out of the past 2½ months - after spending most of her time in hospitals since early February, she was able to relax at her daughter Jill Briggs' home.
Carol gave up her life in the United States in early December and traveled to Kenya to work with AIDS orphans - a mission cut short Feb. 4 when she and her friend Elizabeth Bwayo were shot and nearly killed by four local men on a killing spree.
Elizabeth's husband Joe, a renowned AIDS researcher, was killed; three of the shooters were killed by authorities and villagers, and the fourth one hanged himself.
