Two locals uninjured in fatal three-vehicle crash

A Southeast Portland man died in a three-vehicle crash on Marine Drive on Tuesday, June 14. The other motorists - a Troutdale man and a Gresham woman - were not injured.

Rory James Neidert, 23, of Portland was driving a Toyota coupe eastbound in the 7800 block of Northeast Marine Drive at 2:43 p.m. when the vehicle crossed over the center-line and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer driven by Steven Eugene Means, 56, of Troutdale said Lt. Robert King, Portland police spokesman.

Neidert died instantly. The impact of the crash also drove the Toyota backwards into a Honda sedan driven by Erika Ann Desentz, 39, of Gresham.

Means and Desentz were not injured. None of the vehicles involved contained any passengers.

The Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division Major Crash Team closed Marine Drive between 33rd to 122nd avenues for four hours to investigate.

Neither excessive speed nor alcohol impairment appear to be factors in the crash, King said. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.
