Catcher Brittany Molzan leads hitting effort with three base hits
The Lady Rangers began the spring sports season beating Junction City 6-2 on the road, but quickly picked up four losses, to Marist, Scappoose and a double header to Banks.
Estacada High School junior Micaleh Kelley pitched a one-hitter to Junction City last Monday and led the Rangers to a 6-2 run.
Catcher Brittany Molzan led the Lady Rangers hitting effort, batting .750 with three base hits. Holly Mansell also helped her Lady Rangers with a home run.
Junction City's Tigers scored the first run in the second inning, but Estacada came storming back with three runs in the third. Junction City answered with another in the bottom of the third, but the Lady Rangers ran away with the softball game when they took a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning.
The Estacada girls had the opportunity to run away with the game at Marist last Tuesday when their first three batters scored to take an early 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, Estacada would only score two more runs and Marist went on to belt 13 hits off of Kelley and Reilley Schoknecht, who relieved Kelley to pitch the sixth inning.
Marist won the contest 15-5.
The Lady Rangers returned to Estacada on Friday to host Scappoose. The Indians took an early 5-0 lead, scoring three in the first and two more in the second. Scappoose won 8-1.
The girls hosted Banks for a double header on Saturday and lost a pair of games.
Kelley pitched the whole first game. She struck out three, walked three and gave up three hits and four runs. Banks won 4-1.
Beck scored the Lady Rangers' only run with a solo homerun in the seventh inning.
Schoknecht pitched the second game.
Banks scored four runs to go ahead 9-8 in the seventh inning.
Down by one, Beck hit a single, stole second and advanced to third on an overthrow. Coach Jim Brochis waved her around to home and, in a close play, was called out at the plate, to end the game.
Estacada will play at Gladstone today, at Seaside on Thursday and host LaSalle on Friday. All three games begin at 4 p.m.
