New arrival's songs are as old as the stars
Local singer-songwriter: Laura Veirs
Critically lauded singer-songwriter Laura Veirs is one of the latest transplants to the City of Roses.
The former Seattleite is releasing a new album that isn't out domestically until April 10, but she and her bandmates are warming up for their European tour with an intimate performance at Mississippi Studios.
Veirs' new album, 'Saltbreakers,' continues the heady trajectory that the former geologist first launched with self-released records.
While the physical world remains a source of inspiration for this gifted songwriter ('in the fading of the constellations, I am growing strong,' she sings on 'Pink Light'), Veirs has become more adept at marrying the personal to the physiological.
Indeed, 'Saltbreakers' is definitely Veirs' most fully realized album to date. Catch a preview in Portland's most listener-friendly room now. Get there early for the heartbreakingly great neo-folk of Seattle's Mike Dumovich.
