Limerick contest winners announced
Many Sandy area residents celebrated St. Patrick's Day, Saturday, March 17, by cramming into the Sandy Public Library for the third annual Friends of the Sandy Library Limerick Contest.
Locals submitted 120 entries this year, a record for the contest, and overflow crowds were present to hear many of the funny and witty poems read aloud. Local resident Dan Bosserman served as emcee.
Steve Winkler won first place in the adult category, followed by Lavon Mincey, Sally Phifer, Sharon Crall and Bob Newman. Codee Sheets was the middle school category winner, followed by Kallie Smith and Cody Schaffer. Julia Gomes won the high school category, followed by Becca Hill, James Belford, Rachel Hubbard and Jeff Lane.
First place winners received $25 cash, second place got $20 and so on with fifth place taking home $5, thanks to donations by the Friends of the Library.
