Gresham-Barlow names two new principals
The Gresham-Barlow School District has appointed two new principals, effective July 1.
Terrence Smyth will become principal of Springwater Trail High School, 1440 S.E. Fleming Ave., Gresham. He replaces Larry Bentz, who is retiring.
Terri Bothwell will become principal of Highland Elementary School, 295 N.E. 24th Ave., Gresham. She replaces Dan Wood, who is retiring.
Smyth has served as principal of Sunrise Middle School in the North Clackamas School District since 2003. Prior to that, Smyth spent four years as an assistant principal at Milwaukie High School.
He began his career in education in 1986 as a high school social studies teacher. In addition to teaching, he has also worked as a head wrestling coach and an assistant football coach.
Smyth received his bachelor's degree from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., and has a master's degree from Claremont Graduate University. He earned his administrative license from Lewis and Clark Graduate School in Portland.
Bothwell is assistant principal at Clear Creek Middle School, 219 N. E. 219th St., Gresham. She joined the staff at Clear Creek in 2006 after serving as an assistant principal at Gordon Russell Middle School in Gresham for four years.
In addition to her administrative work, Bothwell has taught grades first through third, middle school grades and spent a year with the district as a teacher on special assignment covering a variety of curriculum matters. She is a licensed special education teacher.
Bothwell received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University, and her master's from Portland State University.
