David Andrew Young

Gresham resident David Andrew Young, 79, died Monday, March 19, in Gresham.
A private service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
David was born June 3, 1927, in Portland to William Frederick and Anna Marie (Jochinsen) Young. He was raised and educated in Portland, where he graduated from Washington High School.
In 1950, he enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
David retired from the metal fabrication industry. After his retirement, he worked part-time in construction and at Multnomah Kennel Club.
He enjoyed cooking, playing baseball, taking trips to the Spirit Mountain Casino or to Reno, spending time at the family beach house in Rockaway Beach and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Robyn Graham of Gresham and Brenda Halle of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother, Paul Young of Gresham; sisters, Eleanor Barbour and Charlotte Vorpahl, both of Beaverton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Leslie L. Engstrom

Gresham resident Leslie L. Engstrom, 81, died Thursday, March 22, in Gresham.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave. A reception will follow.
Leslie was born March 30, 1925, in Nance County, Neb., to Cecil and Elsie (Killham) Engstrom. When he was 11 years old, he moved with his family to Weippe, Idaho, where he completed his education.
In 1942, he moved to Portland and worked in the shipyards in Vancouver, Wash., during World War II.
Leslie married Dolores Bertolucci on June 8, 1946, in Portland.
After the war, he worked as an installer for Pacific Fence and Wire. After 20 years with the company, he took a position at Portland Wire and Iron. He eventually was made supervisor and retired in 1989.
In 1984, while Leslie was working for Portland Wire and Iron, he took a second job with the Centennial School District.
Leslie and Dolores moved to Central Oregon in 1993, but returned to Gresham in 2003.
Leslie was a former member of the Gateway and Madras Elks lodges. He was an avid woodcutter and cut 100 cords of wood every year. He also enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife of Gresham; sons, Matthew Engstrom and Joseph Engstrom, both of Gresham; daughter, Leslie Anne Lewis of Troutdale; brother, Keith Strain of Terrebonne; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
