Raiders sweep doubleheader vs. North Salem
SOFTBALL - Reynolds hits two homers in 5-3 win
SALEM - Reynolds blasted a pair of early home runs to complete a doubleheader sweep against North Salem on Monday afternoon.
The Raiders put their first six batters on base, and Kelli Eubanks and Kelsey Witter each put balls over the fence in the first two innings during the team's 5-3 win against North Salem.
'Everyone just came out on fire,' Witter said. 'It's always nice to get a big lead and take some pressure off your pitchers.'
The host Vikings cut the gap to 5-3, but stranded four runners in scoring position in the fourth-and fifth-innings. Reynolds third baseman Kalie Schleiger highlighted the defensive effort in the fifth inning when she gobbled up a grounder, faked a throw across the infield and chased the lead runner home. Half-way down the baseline, Schleiger made a toss to catcher Alexis Vogt who applied the tag and protected the lead.
Reynolds earned a 1-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader. Witter scored the game's only run after getting a lead-off single and stealing second base. She scrambled across home plate after a pair of passed balls rolled to the backstop.
In other MHC action, Barlow fell 8-0 against The Dalles-Wahtonka and 2-1 against Sherwood in the opening day of a spring break tournament in The Dalles.
