La Salles Streed clears record 13 feet

Dieringer's 29-year-old pole vault record falls

MILWAUKIE - Connor Streed set a new school record at the recent Spring Breakaway track and field meet, hosted by La Salle on March 20.

Streed, a junior at La Salle, soared 13 feet, topping the old mark by an inch. Steed's mark was a six-inch PR.

Mike Dieringer set the old mark, at 12-11, way back in 1978.

Eric Whalen also had a big meet for the Falcons on the 20th. The Falcon junior throws specialist won first place in all three throwing events for the second meet in a row.

Whalen has marks of 160-3 in the javelin, 44-6 in the shot put and 136-9 in the discus in meets this season. His marks put him in the top 10 in the state in Class 4A for all three events.

La Salle boys ran away with the 'Spring Breakaway' meet, outscoring the runner-up Astoria Fishermen 191-1/2 to 138.

Other boys team scores were North Marion 75, De La Salle 45-1/2, Portland Waldorf 30 and Corbett 16.

La Salle girls (156) lost by a point to Astoria (157).

It was the second win in as many meets for the Falcon boys, who outclassed the field in a home meet held on March 15. The Falcons guys out-scored runner-up Valley Catholic 148-51 in that five-team meet. La Salle girls topped Valley Catholic for first place, 121-102.
