Spring returns to Rhododendron Gardens

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens, just west of the Reed College campus, once again this month welcomes spring with a soft palette of pink and white blossoms.

Flowering plum and cherry canopies form a pastel background for the spring green boughs of weeping willow, while elsewhere pink magnolia blossoms complement early flowering rhododendrons.

Canada geese and other waterfowl act out their courtship on the waters of the lagoon, and red-winged blackbirds chime melodiously among the iris beds. Early bumblebees bob among the yellow blossoms of Oregon grape at the entry to the high arched bridge.

Even turtles enjoy the warmth of spring, sunning themselves on sheltered logs. Spring slips quietly into the Gardens, but careful visitors will see the signs all about them.
