Barlow's softball team jumped in front in the first inning and relied on its defense to do the rest during a 5-1 win against Centennial on Thursday, April 5.

Lauren Wilkerson capped the early scoring burst with an RBI-single through the infield for a quick 2-0 lead.

Centennial made its final comeback attempt in the sixth inning when Michelle Tumbaga hit a lead-off single and stole her way around to third base. She crossed home plate two batters later on a deep shot to the center-field fence by teammate Dusty Sandstrom.

The Bruins put the game out of reach with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kristel Baeckel started the charge by drilling a lead-off single down the third-base line and scoring on a Centennial throwing error later in the inning.

'We didn't want them to get any confidence back,' Baeckel said. 'We had three runs, but we knew that we needed more.

• In other MHC action, David Douglas took advantage of seven Gresham errors for a 4-1 win. Deanna Breece hit an RBI-single into center field to score teammate Kelli Eubanks from third base and lift Reynolds past Hood River in 10 innings.
