Columnist to speak about Troutdale history April 15

Troutdale resident Sharon Nesbit, historian and Outlook columnist, will be the featured speaker at the Troutdale Historical Society's next meeting, which will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Glenn Otto Community Park, 1106 E. Historic Columbia River Highway.

Nesbit will discuss her much anticipated new book, 'It Could Have Been Carpdale,' a centennial history of Troutdale, which is due in late summer or early fall.

The book contains more than 200 photographs and covers Troutdale's beginnings, its birth as a boomtown in 1891, transportation, area schools and the town's prominent residents and businesses.

It also includes chapters on town government, farming, the Multnomah County Poor Farm, smelt runs, weather events and life in Troutdale in the churches and organizations.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
