Big trip, big dance, big competition
The Sandy High Update
Five members of the Sandy High School newspaper and yearbook classes will travel to Denver to participate in the National Journalism Convention.
'I'm really excited about Denver; it's my first year going, and I've heard nothing but good things about it,' said junior Jeff Budke. 'It will be a good learning experience and hopefully prepare me for next year on (the newspaper) staff. Plus, I've never been to Denver, so that will be fun.'
The convention sponsors writing competitions on various topics (news, sports, etc.) and has a wide variety of classes to take. Classes are offered there that are not offered at school, such as broadcast media and magazine design.
Also, yesterday was freshman orientation. Leadership students and staff welcomed many current eighth-graders. Tours are offered, and clubs and sports fill the commons competing for students who may be interested.
Voting for prom court will be Wednesday through Friday, April 11-13, during third lunch. Many juniors and seniors are looking forward to the announcement of the court at prom April 21. Prom this year is being held at the Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland. The theme will be a masquerade ball; both the theme and location are chosen by the junior class council, which also plans all the other details of prom.
Band will have its final league competition this week. The band will be judged on two main pieces, and their scores will determine whether they qualify for state.
