Baseball: Sherwood improves to 5-1 in league games with the victories

SHERWOOD - The Sherwood High School baseball team added a pair of wins to its record in the past week.

One of those wins was an extra-inning thriller, the other was an easy Bowmen victory.

On April 4, Sherwood outlasted Glencoe to score a 4-3 win in nine innings in a Northwest Oregon Conference game played at Sherwood High School.

In that game, notched the winning run with one-out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Senior Nate Hickok got things started with a one-out double. Senior Alex Wert was then intentionally walked and junior Travis Setere was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Hickok then scored on a wild pitch on the first pitch to junior Jason Erwin.

Setere went 3-for-3 at the plate in the victory. Senior Derek Kotowski went 2-for-3 with a double, junior Johnny Wade went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and senior Taylor Hill added an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Hill also pitched the first eight innings of the win, giving up six hits while striking out five. Kotowski pitched a shutout ninth inning to pick up the win on the mound.

Last Thursday, the Bowmen rolled to a 14-3 win over Century in a league game played at Century High School.

Wade picked up the pitching win, throwing six innings of shutout ball. He gave up just two hits while striking out eight.

Setere went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI. Kotowski also went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Wert went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI and Hill went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.

The two victories upped the Bowmen's NWOC record to 5-1 while giving the team an overall mark of 9-3.

Sherwood's scheduled home game with St. Helens on Monday was postponed due to rain. The Bowmen were slated to host Wilsonville in a league contest on Wednesday. Results of that game weren't available when the Times went to press.

Sherwood is tentatively scheduled to make up the game with St. Helens today (Thursday), starting at 4:30 p.m. at Sherwood High School. On Friday, the Bowmen host Liberty at 4:30 p.m.
