Lincoln freshman Tasha Hueffner beat two-time PIL tennis champion Danielle Farmer 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday to avenge an earlier loss and set up a potential rubber match in the PIL 6A district finals May 4.
Farmer, a senior, won the first meeting 6-2, 7-6, 6-2.
'Tasha had a game plan this time and from the get-go pressured Danielle, who perhaps didn't have a strong day,' Lincoln coach Susan Basham says. 'And she really wanted it not only for herself but for her team. The whole team was there cheering for her.'
Lincoln beat Grant 5-3 for the second time, with victories by No. 1 doubles Ella McCallion and Betsy Sauer, No. 2 doubles Jessie Gauger and Kelsey Goodell and No. 3 doubles Megan Clarey and Jessica Kim.
• Lincoln's boys also swept Grant in dual matches, winning 5-3 Tuesday after an earlier 7-1 victory. Cardinal sophomore Peter Jones, who won the PIL last year, beat Joe Hagen 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles. Jones is playing through an injury (a ganglion cyst on his right wrist). Lincoln's No. 2 man, German exchange student Nik Trimborn, remains undefeated, as is the top doubles draw of Will Stevens and Willy Bennetts.
