For the 47th year in a row, Pacific University students share their Hawaiian culture with the larger community
by: Chase Allgood, A Pacific University student and member of the Hawaiian Club, Na Haumana O Hawai’i, entertains the crowd with the Fire Knife Dance at last weekend’s annual lu’au. Balancing fire, knives, spears and head dresses, the performers mesmerized audience members on the Forest Grove campus Saturday evening after everyone enjoyed a traditional Hawaiian meal of teriyaki chicken, ka’lua pig, chicken long rice and poi.

The aloha spirit was everywhere last Saturday on the Pacific University campus in Forest Grove as hundreds of people - including family members who flew in from the Hawaiian islands - celebrated at the 47th annual lu'au sponsored by the campus Hawaiian Club, Na Haumana O Hawaii.

The theme of the event, which featured a sumptuous island feast and a program that included dancing and music, was Ke Kaila O Na 'Aina, or 'Island Style.'

Pacific students Raysha Sadang, Tiffany Yabuta and Jerrett 'Moki' Takayama formed the steering committee that planned this year's lu'au.
