Cameras installed in Meinig Park
City Network Administrator Scott Brown, public works employee Joe Preston and Sandy Police Officer Kevin Moody worked together to install a security camera in the Meinig Park gazebo after a spate of vandalism. The camera uses the park's wi-fi system to send digital images to City Hall and the Sandy Police Department. City officials say that in the week or so that the camera has been operational, there have been fewer problems in the park.
In fact, a vandal was caught in the act of carving a picnic table on Monday, April 16, while Brown was watching the digital broadcast. Police caught the vandal, who confessed to damaging city property.
