Gresham sprinter wins twice at Centennial Invite
TRACK AND FIELD - Barlow boys finish third in the team tally; Gresham girls place fifth
Gresham sprinter Schavey Hill was the only multi-event winner at the Centennial Invitational track meet Saturday night.
Hill started her night with a dominating performance in the 100-meter dash, getting out of the blocks first and never being challenged. She crossed the finish line in 12.32 seconds about three strides ahead of the pack.
'I got out faster than anybody, then it was just a matter of pumping my arms and staying focused on the finish line,' Hill said.
She ended her night with a photo-finish victory in the 200 (25.21), edging Summit's Kellie Schueler by .03 seconds.
Centennial's Michelle Dettmann won the 3,000 race, while Martha Hale of David Douglas won the shot put.
Southridge won the girls meet with 58 points, while Gresham finished fifth with 26.
On the boys side, Barlow finished third in the team tally with 44 points. West Salem won the meet with 61.
Eric Capelle led the Bruins with a tight win in the high hurdles (14.75), edging Benson's Eric Bailey by a split-second. Barlow also picked up first-place points in the 400 relay, while Brennan East of David Douglas won the 200 sprint.
