SOFTBALL - Witter scores winning run in the third inning
Reynolds stared down a pair of Gresham scoring threats early in the game and went on to shut out the Gophers for a 3-0 softball win Monday afternoon.
Gresham loaded the bases in each of the first two innings, but failed to get any runs across. Raiders' center fielder Kelsey Witter highlighted the defense by racing in to make a catch near the dirt to end the second inning.
'We didn't want them to get any advantage on us, and those early plays gave the girls a real boost of confidence,' Reynolds coach Erin Seawright said.
Witter supplied the winning run in the third inning, banging a lead-off double off the center-field fence. She scored on a Gophers' error during the next at-bat.
Reynolds pitcher Kelli Eubanks tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
• In other MHC action Monday, Centennial's Kayley Rice hit an RBI-single in the seventh inning to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 win against Sandy. Central Catholic (7-0) remained perfect in league with a 4-0 shutout against David Douglas.
