GIRLS GOLF - St. Mary's wins fourth straight league tournament

WELCHES - Gresham's Emily Slayton may have bogied her last four holes at the April 19 tournament at The Resort at the Mountain, but that didn't stop her from earning medallist honors with a tournament-low score of 77.

'She played through the worst on the last few holes,' Gresham coach Scott Shields said. 'She didn't let inclement weather ruin a good round.'

And what inclement weather it was for the second week in a row.

The tournament was almost called on two occasions due to snow, rain and cold but ultimately all parties involved decided to soldier on and complete their rounds.

Gresham finished third in team scoring with a 375, behind only Central Catholic (367) and St. Mary's (331).

On the front nine - the course's 'Thistle Nine' - Slayton had a good drive on her first hole but started off with a bogey.

She then parred on holes No. 2 and No. 3, birdied the 373-yard No. 4 hole and made one bogey and four pars throughout the rest of the Thistle.
