GRESHAM - The Sandy boys golf team picked up its best finish of the season by taking third place on Thursday, April 19, at Gresham Golf Course.

The Pioneers finished with a 316 total - just one stroke behind runner-up Barlow. Jerad Spencer scored a birdie on the par-4, 18th hole to end his round and pull Sandy within one of the Bruins. He joined Forrest Wagoner in the race for the team's best score - each posting 6-over-par 78s.

Wagoner highlighted his day on the par-4, fourth hole when he dropped his approach shot just behind the pin from more than 100 yards out. The ball landed on the top tier of the green, and he had no trouble dropping the five-foot birdie putt.

The Sandy sophomore finished strong by putting together five straight pars on the back-nine and adding another birdie on the par-5, 16th hole.

Golfing out of the team's No. 5 spot, Nate Spradlin provided a boost with his 79 that included three straight pars to start the day. Jamie Wood added Sandy's final counting score with an 81.

Central Catholic continues to go unchallenged, picking up its fourth Mount Hood Conference win in as many tries. The Rams had five of the top seven finishers, led by Kevin Showalter and Joe Christianson with 71s.

Centennial's Nick Chianello posted the lowest individual score with an 8-under-par 64. The sophomore was 2-over after four holes, but flipped the switch with a birdie on the par-5, fifth hole. He never scored worse than par the rest of the way, including a string of five straight birdies in the middle of his round.

Andy LeRoque led Barlow with a 2-over 74. He started strong by sinking back-to-back 10-foot putts for pars on the No. 2 and 3 holes.
