Saints expand their lead in the Southern Region with a sweep
BASEBALL - Mt. Hood runs record to 12-2 with wins over SW Oregon
The Mt. Hood Community College baseball team used a pair of late scoring spurts to sweep a doubleheader against SW Oregon on Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints (12-2) used timely hitting to pick up a 4-1 win in the opener. Mt. Hood broke the game open in the sixth inning when Gresham graduate Justin Speer was hit by a pitch. Moments later, he scored all the way from first base when Tyson Nelson smacked a double just past the reach of the first baseman. The Saints added another run on an RBI-double by Brett Davis in the next at-bat.
'That changed the momentum of the game,' Nelson said. 'We wanted to keep things intense - we didn't want to get lazy.'
The Saints won the nightcap 7-3 sparked by a six-run burst in the fourth-and-fifth innings. At one point, Mt. Hood strung together five straight hits highlighted by Allan O'Donnell's two-run double.
In high school action, Reynolds knocked off first-place Barlow 8-5.
