Judge grants release of Butts' psychological evaluation
Circuit Court Judge Ted Grove will allow the release of Daniel Butts' psychological evaluation following a public records request made by the Oregonian.
Butts, 21, is accused of killing Rainier Chief of Police Ralph Painter during a Jan. 5 attempted car robbery. A doctor from the Oregon State Hospital evaluated Butts earlier in the year at his attorneys' request to determine whether he could aid in his own defense.
The medical examiner's report will be released publicly on July 15, a week before a scheduled hearing to determine whether Butts is fit to stand trial.
