Bateman takes first place

Cedar Ridge grade schooler excels at state championships

Eleven-year old Kyle Bateman, a sixth grader at Cedar Ridge Middle School, took first place at the Greco-Roman state championships (112 Novice Division) in Hermiston April 21 and 22. Bateman also took second in the Freestyle competition.

Other area wrestlers competing at the Hermiston tournament were Colton Parker, an 11 year-old fifth grader at Kelso Grade School who took fifth place in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions (85 Novice); C.J. McKinnis, a 10 year-old fourth grader at Kelso who took second in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle (95 Midget); Garrett Rotzien, a 10 year-old fourth grader at Keslo who took third place in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle (80 Midget); and eight year-old Max Topliff, who took fourth in the Freestyle (65 Bantam).
