Get ready for the Lake Run

As the clouds begin to dissipate over Lake Oswego and the flowers around town are in full bloom, it must mean that the annual Lake Run is not far behind.

This year's event, the 31st annual, will take place on May 12 at Millennium Plaza Park. Presented by the Lake Oswego Junior Women's Club, the fundraiser has become one of the city's biggest draws, pulling in hundreds of participants and thousands of onlookers every year.

Pre-race packet pick-up and registration will be available on Friday, May 11, from noon to 6 p.m. and on the day of the race from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m.

Then the festivities begin. At 8 a.m., the Family Fun Festival, featuring dozens of local vendors and kid-friendly activities kicks off and the first event of the day also starts.

The 5k Run/Walk through the heart of downtown Lake Oswego is the opening race followed by the 12k run at 8:30 a.m.

The 12k is the premiere event of the day, drawing some of the top distance runners in the Northwest every year. The course features fantastic views of Oswego Lake.

Awards ceremonies will be held directly following the events and the always-popular Kids Dash for children 11 and younger will start at 10:30 a.m.

ChampionChip Timing will be used to give participants extremely accurate splits and everyone competing will also receive a free Nike T-shirt.

The cost for the 5k is $25 if received by May 7 and $30 for the 12k. On the day of the race the cost is $30 and $35, respectively. The Kid's Dash is $10 per participant. Entries may be dropped off at area Foot Traffic locations, Pace Setter Athletic, Fight Right NW and Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation.
