Police lieutenant retires

Lt. Dan Spiering retired from the Lake Oswego Police Department April 27 after a lengthy career.

Spiering first came to the LOPD in 1981 after graduating from Oregon State University with a degree in wildlife science. He was promoted from police services aide to police officer in 1982 and worked in LOPD's special investigations unit from 1990 to 1994.

In 1994 he was assigned to the Regional Organized Crime Narcotics Task Force. He returned from a 2-year stint at ROCN to work in the LOPD detective unit from 1996 to 1998. He was promoted to patrol corporal and then sergeant in 1998. Spiering was promoted to lieutenant in 2003 and served as detective lieutenant from 2004 to 2006. He spent his last year as traffic lieutenant.
