Portland firefighters pulled a 72-year-old man from a burning Northeast Broadway fire late Wednesday evening.
The man was taken to the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. His name and condition have not been released.
At about 10:35 p.m., Portland Fire and Rescue firefighters were called to an apartment that was on fire at 10900 N.E. Broadway. Crews found heavy smoke coming from the apartment's front door.
Inside, firefighters searching for victims found a man suffering from smoke inhalation lying against a bedroom door. Firefighters carried the man out of the burning apartment and began medical treatment until he could be taken to the hospital.
The fire was contained to one room of the dwelling and quickly put out.
The Oregon Trail chapter of the American Red Cross is helping another person who lived in the apartment find shelter and other household items.
Investigators are trying to determine the fire's cause and how much damage it did to the building.
