Police nab suspect in two dozen West Hills burglaries

Portland police have arrested a 26-year-old man they think is responsible for more than two dozen burglaries in Southwest Portland neighborhoods during the past two months.
Charles Earl Howell was taken into custody at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, after a police officer spotted him walking in North Portland. Howell is being held in the Multnomah County Detention Center on four counts of first-degree burglary.
The Portland Police Bureau's Burglary Task Force has been looking for Howell since early April, when he was identified as a possible suspect in burglaries of more than 25 houses in Portland's West Hills.
Howell was originally wanted on a warrant for a third-degree robbery charge.
