Jack W. Thurber and Georgianna Birch Thurber of Portland will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering later this summer.
They were married June 18, 1961, at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Gresham. Jack and Georgie, both Oregon State University graduates, met in 1960 and married after Jack's graduation. They have resided in Portland, Corvallis, Sedro-Woolley and Fircrest, Wash., and in Portland since 1972.
Jack retired from a career in industrial marketing communications. He was a co-founder and volunteer at Cedar Mill Community Library and is affiliated with the Boy Scouts, the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers, the Montana Ghost Town Society and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Georgie graduated from Gresham High School in 1955 and is mostly retired as a legal secretary. She is affiliated with Cedar Mill Community Library, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Kappa Kappa Gamma women's fraternity.
Jack and Georgie's children are Andrea Lea Surfleet of Corvallis and Brad W. Thurber of Bothell, Wash. They have three grandchildren.
