Little League District 1 tournaments have begun or will begin by this weekend and most of them are in Scappoose this year.

Scappoose Little League is hosting district baseball tournaments for Majors (11-12 year-olds), 10-11 year-olds, and Juniors (13-14 years-olds), plus three district softball tournaments (9-10s, 11-12s, Juniors).

Only the 13-team Minors (9-10s) tournament is away, hosted by Lakeside Little League. That tournament began on Saturday and will conclude by July 6 at the latest.

The 10-11s tournament is just three teams this year-Scappoose, St. Helens, and Wilshire-Riverside. There is just one game each day from July 2 through July 5 or possibly July 6.

The premier Little League Baseball district tournament, the one that could lead to the Little League World Series, is a 10-team affair starting with two pools of play, July 2 through July 7, and culminating with the four-team championship bracket July 9-10.

Those two tournaments will be played at Veteran's Park in Scappoose. The Juniors tournament will be played at the Scappoose High varsity fields.

There are six teams in the Juniors tournament, this year. The tournament starts with two games on July 5 and two more July 6. The double elimination bracket continues through Sunday, July 10 or possibly Monday, July 11 if there is an 'if' game. That game occurs if the unbeaten team loses on July 10.

Little League softball is also being played in Scappoose, all at the high school varsity field, next to the school district administration offices.

The 9-10s is a 6-team tournament, starting on July 8 and continuing through a possible 'if' game on July 13.

There are just four teams in the Majors softball tournament. It starts this Friday, and continues through July 5. The Juniors tournament is only two teams, starting July 9 and ending the next day with a rematch. There will only be a third game on July 11 if there is a loss for the team that won on Saturday.
